what are some good first date conversation topics?
i am about to go on my first date with this guy i really like. he is 17 and i do not know what to talk about on our first date. i am really nervous.
Dean answers:
What you talk about depends how well you know him. If you don’t know him very well at all, there’s so much to tolk about! Does he work, if so what does he do, likes, dislikes, what does he do for fun, favourite books/movies/tv shows/music/sports teams, whatever. Try and stay away from controversial or really heavy topics (example: abortion, politics, the messed up relationship you have with your parents… That doesn’t need to be discussed on the first date)
The whole idea is to get an idea of who he is as a person, and to figure out ifyou could see yourself being with him. If you know him a little better, don’t think of it as a ‘date’ (too much pressure) just think of it as hanging out. Talk about a funny thing someone said, what happened to you today, etc. Work on getting to know him better. Also, if you have any input on what you;re going to do for the date, suggest an activity as opposed to going out for dinner or coffee or something. If you’re mini golfing or something, and the conversation lulls, it’s not such a big deal because you’re doing something and not just watching eachother chew. (also, a little friendly competition never hurt anyone lol)

unable to use the basic first date conversation?
well my gf(asked her out online, i know bad move huh? shoulda wait til we met in person) which i never seen in person in reallife invite me to a restaurant with her friends and the problem is that we talked online about everyhting already(sibling, carreer, past, favorites this and that)
so im wondering now that all the typical conversation for first date is eliminated what should i talk about? ty

Well, if you felt a connection between you two, then any conversation should be easy to continue. Don’t get nervous with an awkward silence. Haha, if you start feeling awkward then she will too.
You could bring up how you’ve been doing, ask her how she’s been doing, just basic things going on in the world.

First Date/Conversation Tips?
My friend is currently hooking me up with an older guy. He’s 20 while I’m 17. Neither of us have talked before. He and I just saw each other where my friend works and liked each other. What is some tips of things I shouldn’t talk about/do on first date, or our first conversation on phone. I’m incredibly shy and never been on a “real” date; any tips please?

What is good first date conversation?
I’m decent looking and I speak with intelligence, calm and confidence, so I can get girls to go out with me. But once I’m actually out on a date, conversation is a problem. If I’m trying to learn about the girl and listen to her, they say I’m too quiet or that I ask too many questions. If I take the lead and steer the conversation, they say I’m too long-winded and serious because I like to talk about things that actually matter. The girls who seem to actually like talking to me are few and far between. At 21, I feel kind of stupid still asking this question, but how do I make date conversation easier?

Hmm, first date, I would do something active (bicycle, mini-golf, some form of athletics, etc). It breaks the ice and keeps the conversation natural.
There’s too much pressure to start talking right up front. After the activity, the conversation should flow because you can talk about what you just did.

We’ve already talked about music and our interests. The thing is we’re both really shy and I’m afraid it’s going to be awkward!! Help is welcome.

I always say do the movie before dinner. That way you have something in common to break the ice at dinner. Which will also lead to other conversations

First date conversation advice?
I have a date tomorrow and I don’t really date much. One thing I really have a problem with is starting conversation. I know it’s good to talk about music, movies, books, hobbies etc. but I have a problem with leading into the conversation. I think it’d be weird if he walked into the coffee shop and I said “Hey, what’s your favorite music?” or “Hello, what are your hobbies” as an opening sentence. Any advice?

“so what do you do?” then he answers, try to connect it with your work and hobbies. Then you’ll get a conversation.. ;)

Don’t have a script. Just make it natural. If there’s chemistry, it’ll flow.

Just talk about what you like. Don’t try to impress him. The only way things will work between you two will be if you are both completely honest with each other, also awkwardness isn’t always a bad thing.

I always get really nervous with first dates. I NEVER look them in the eye and there is always awkward silences. I need to keep the conversation going and seem like my usual upbeat self! Any suggestions?
