Chris asks…

How are hotels rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?

How are hotels rated on a scale of 1-5 stars? What companies give out ratings? What are the ratings for the Ritz-Carltons, the Four Seasons, and the Roosevelt hotels in Manhattan. Can you give a short list on what hotel chains would rank on the scale 1-5 stars?

Thanks!

Dean answers:

It varies on the hotel and the customer service. Like a nasty disgusting hotel with horrible service is maybe going to get a one star rating. However, a hotel that has good customer service and a nice atmosphere is going to get a higher rating. AAA uses diamonds instead of stars for ratings. But travel companies have ratings based on the customer feedback for the hotel visit.

Http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Hotels-Are-Rated&id=5672029 <— This mentions what you would get for a one star, two star, three star, four star and five star hotel. Like a Marriott would be about a four star rating.

Included are some other sites that explain about the rating as well. Hope it helps. :)

Daniel asks…

How much 4 star hotels in Malaysia take as initial deposit, considering that I have already booked a hotel?

I have booked a hotel for a period of 4 days. hotels generally ask for counter deposit. What will be that amount? My hotel is based in kualalumpur.

Dean answers:

It depends on the hotel policy. It is better to call the hotel and ask them about this. As usual the part of the amount they want in advance is enough to cover your first night in the hotel! So it is better to call the hotel and make it clear! Good luck!

William asks…

What hotels near to the center of the Los Vegas strip allow 18 year olds?

My friends and I are planning a vacation for the summer. Unfortunately, we are all 18 and 19 and most hotels require a minimum age of 21 to register. Are there any hotels in the center or near to the center of the main strip that allow 18 or 19 year olds to register? Thanks!

Dean answers:

The only hotel on the strip that still allows 18+ check-in is Riviera, and it’s toward the north end of the strip. It’s not very close to most of the action, but there is a monorail stop nearby.

The only other nearby hotel that will allow 18+ check-in is Las Vegas Hilton – it’s just off the strip. All other hotels on and near the strip are 21+. The other 18+ hotels/motels are those that are farther out from all the touristy areas.
