Don’t stress too much on the fact that you’re shy when you try talking to her. It happens with everyone, honestly! It’s good that you’re making the effort, because a lot of guys nowadays don’t initiate like they used to. I know if I were her, I would appreciate that. Also, she may just be shy if she is interested in you too. You can’t really strike up a random conversation with someone, you have to give it time for real conversation to develop. For now, you can make small funny comments to her on how hard you thought a quiz was, or making little inside jokes about something that happened in that class that both of you saw. Girls like humor in a guy, but don’t start out too strong or trying too hard at first. You could also find out what classes she’s taking (like art, band, photography, etc.) and find out on things she’s interested in.
Don’t get discouraged if she’s still shy after a while, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t like you, she may like you a lot more than you realize but she just doesn’t want to show it. I’m not generally a quiet person, but if you don’t know me I can seem shy at first. Being a somewhat shy girl, I know some of us tend to try to hide our feelings. Eventually you’ll get a sense of whether you think things will go further or not. I know it’s hard to initiate without knowing if she’s interested in you, but if you never try you’ll never know. My boyfriend and I were almost too nervous to talk to each other, and I always think about how different things would be if we hadn’t gotten over those ridiculous little fears. What I’m saying is in the long run even if things didn’t work out, you can either look back and say that you truly tried your best, or you’ll look back and think why didn’t I try when I had the chance?
