Dean Answers Questions About Online Dating Statistics

Chris asks…

I’m 26 and single, is there a chance I’ll be married before age 30?

I’m 26 and single. I’ve never been in a real relationship, and I’m still a virgin because I didn’t want to give myself to someone I wasn’t totally in love with. I want to make it clear that, no matter what any random person has to say about that, I don’t feel like that’s a bad thing at all. I’m strong and independent, and it’s not that I couldn’t have a guy if I wanted one, it’s that I didn’t want to date meaninglessly and randomly but I only wanted to spend my time on guys I really liked. Not to sound self-centered, but I’m smart and attractive, and plenty of guys have been interested. I’m very focused on my career as well (in the middle of getting a master’s degree in biology and I’m about to go to med school in a year or two). So far I’ve liked two guys, one progressed into a relationship and the other didn’t. Both guys turned out to be sex-obsessed jerks and caused me a lot of heartache.

I could live out the rest of my life single if I wanted, and I think I could be happy…I’d be successful and have lots of friends and a fulfilling life either way. I don’t need a guy…I just want one. Having the right guy in my life, someone who’s my best friend and whom I just totally click with on every level, who actually respects me as a person instead of just seeing me as a conquest (as the two previously mentioned guys kinda did at least on some level)…would make my life a lot better. And I want that. I’m ready to not be single anymore. I wouldn’t have said this one or two years ago, but I am saying it now…I am ready to make a relationship a priority no matter how much I would have to juggle it with all my other priorities.

I’m not interested in online dating sites BTW, I just want to meet someone and have everything happen naturally, not because I went out looking for it or forced it.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting married after age 30, but I would like to get married before that. It just feels right to me…plus, like I said, I’m just ready to fall in love and find someone. Not to mention the statistics – if you want kids, 27-34 is the best age to start having them.

I’ve grown up a lot in the last couple of years and through my crappy experiences with guys, I’ve realized what I don’t want in a guy and what I do. I’m glad I didn’t get married younger when I was so immature and would have picked the wrong guy and ended up getting a divorce. Some people have told me that it’s going to be hard for me to find anyone being so inexperienced at this age and I should just be willing to settle, but I really don’t want to believe that…but what if it’s true? I think the issue is mostly that I’ve barely even put myself out there. In college, for example, while everyone else was partying and meeting new people, I was in the library studying 24/7 or otherwise building up my resume. But as I said, I am willing to make changes now so that I can make new friends and meet the right guy for me.

Is there a chance that I will find this guy within the next couple of years?

Dean answers:

Yes u will find someone there is someone for everyone

Daniel asks…

There are other female minorities in the USA too, why does it affect the Asians the most?

Lately I’ve been thinking about being a minority in the USA and problems of identity and self-hatred. It’s really strange but it does seem Asian girls have it worst, and I wonder why? There are black, Latina, Middle Eastern girls out there as well; but much less often do I see them bashing men of their own race, or dating white-only like (a lot of) Asian girls I see or know. Heck there are even online statistics proving that. I’m a gay guy so I don’t think I’m biased on this.

So the question is: why does it affect the Asian girls more than girls or other minorities? Is it because Asians have the shortest history in the US compared to other races? Or is it because of something else? Can anyone elaborate on this?

Dean answers:

I think one reason is because there aren’t that many Asians in the USA to begin with. The ones that are here mostly live around white people so they naturally conform to their peers.

Robert asks…

Does anyone know a site that provides free and up-to-date data regarding female gamers?

I’m currently doing an article on the role of female gamers in the “male-dominated” video/online game industry. Data and stats, of course, will add flavor to the article. Maybe some of you out there know a website or two that provides the statistics I’m looking for, for free. So far, the only free source I got is Wikipedia, lol.

Dean answers:

Well, i didnt find one source for all… But i did find these interesting:

Gender of game players:

38% female

62% male

Women age 18 or older represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31%) than boys age 17 or younger (20%). (A fact)

John asks…

What is it about NYC that gives it such variety in interracial couples and nobody cares?

Hi there guys, I am a New Yorker, not born or raised here but came here for college. I am ethnically an Indian (India) guy and I am dating a Latin girl, of course according to online surveys, statistics, and all that conducted by our buddies out on the west coast, that pairing is not even supposed to exist. Latinas are all exotic and hot and Indian guys are all short, dark and smell bad, ya.

Well I notice that in NYC, it is so common to see interracial couples with variety, Black guy with an Asian girl, Asian guy with a Black girl, Indian guy with an Asian girl, Asian guy with an Indian girl, Arabian guy with a Latina, and I mean it is endless, just yesterday I met a Native American woman married to an East Indian guy and none of their neighbors cared.

Now personally, I have friends that live in Los Angeles and when they come here to visit to see an Asian guy with a Black girl or an Indian guy with a Latina, most of them tell me how they did not even know such pairings existed. They say that in LA you don’t see this much variety and if you do, someone has something to say about it.

In my trip to Los Angeles, I was almost attacked by some Hispanic guys in a tourist area when they overheard my girlfriend and I talking. She was trying to teach me Spanish and made a comment about me being Indian, fortunately, cops were around but the Hispanic guys made a lot of comments.

In NYC I have been to the Bronx and I met a guy who was Lebanese and Puerto Rican mixed and I mean, I just don’t know what it is about NYC that gives it such variety in interracial couples but at the same time people don’t care about it. Why is it like this in NYC and not other cities?

Dean answers:

Nobody here really cares about race. There’s so many different ethnicities surrounding each other.

David asks…

user growth in second life, my space and other online spaces?

I want someone to do some market research for me.

I need to know the following. For the virtual world game, Second Life, I want to know what dates (approximately) they crossed these registered user marks;

1M (10/18/2006)
500,000
100,000
50,000
launch

Bonus if you can give me the same data for Myspace and include their additional milestones for 10M and higher users. Please include links to the stories or articles you are using so I can reference.

If you can find any usage statistics (e.g. % active, average time in game/month…)even better

The more data on this subject, the better and I will pay more for good work!

Donald asks…

Help please!! i need to finish this project about the bird flu in less then 3 days?

·can be submitted using the tools available to you.
Bird Flu: In China in 1996, a human was infected with a strain of avian flu called H5N1. In the subsequent 12 years, 400 infections worldwide resulted in approximately 100 deaths, spread out over 9 countries. The media have been unrelenting in their coverage of this disease and its potential role in a global disease outbreak. Research this disease and evaluate whether it is a case of legitimate cause for panic or a case of misinformation and worst-case scenarios. (It’s possible that it could be a little of both!)
Your report should include the following:
·What virus is responsible?
·What is the link with flu and Asia?
·What is the primary means of transmission to humans?
·What is the mortality rate of this disease?
·What would need to happen for this disease to pose a significant global threat (think in terms of transmission)?
·Does this virus replicate by the lytic or lysogenic cycle? Describe that process.
·How does your body respond to infection by a virus?
·What can be done medically for a person infected with a virus?
·How is flu vaccine manufactured?
Terms to include and define in your report are: pandemic, mortality, transmission, zoonosis, disease reservoir, pathogen, antibodies, antigen, and antiviral.
Be sure to include in your conclusion your opinion, based on stated facts, on what is the real scope of the threat posed by this virus. Are we doing enough? Not enough? Too much?
You may use the resources available to you to complete this project. You are encouraged to do at least some of your research online, and to make sure that you have the most up-to-date statistics.

Michael asks…

What are my odds of meeting a girl on OK Cupid (dating site)?

I live in Texas and she lives in California. We are an 86% match, and both nerdy. We have yet to make contact with each other. I messaged her about 91 minutes ago, and I said “hows it going? My name is S…..”

Any experience with online dating? Any mathematical probabilities and statistics (optional)?

Dean answers:

Okay, I’m just going to put it bluntly. OkCupid is not a very good way to go.

If you’re seriously about finding a lasting relationship, try something like eHarmony, they have a free month and a compatibility profile. You’re matched on many, many times more variables, and even though you’ll have to pay for it eventually, you’ll be happier in the long run.

That’s not to say that a love interest can’t come from a sight like OkCupid, I’d just hedge my bets on the better dating services, like eHarmony or Match.

Just my two cents.

Joseph asks…

does online dating work.?.?

i was looking at some statistics and only guys that make $250,000.00 a year get replies from some of the women there, not to mention the success rate is somewhere around 5% for the people there.
does online dating work.?.
@paradox
yeah theres not much chance, there might be like 5 guys in the whole country who might fit their standards.

@Mama K
“Most of the men are weak willed and afraid of actual conversation. ”
so you dont go out with most guys?.

Dean answers:

Unless you are johnny depp or brad pit or some such crap, men don’t have a chance in hell on them.
