It’s not a bad idea. It can be negative at times, more so than other places, but it also can hold value. Usually people are going out to a bar to have a good time, and that usually means short-term. They aren’t particularly out to find the love of their life. If anything, they most likely want to make out or hook up with someone, but not much more than that. But almost everyone goes out, so there are people out there who are great dating material as well. It’s just most people aren’t looking for that at the time.

I dated several girls that I met at the bars. One I dated for 13 months and we are still really great friends. I met her in mid-September on 2006 and we talked a lot and hung out for a few months. Then we started dating each other exclusively as boyfriend/girlfriend that December.

When we first met at the bar we just talked and did the usual bar thing. I hit on her for a little while and I got her number. I called her not long after that night and continued texting/calling each other. Soon we got together to do stuff and slowly started hanging out.

Bars can bring good and they can bring not so good. Like I said, most people, even my ex-gf, was out just for fun that night. It took time to develop into more, but the potential is there for good dating material.
